How to Peel A Mango: 2 Ways

YAY! Mango season is here! We don't have to tell you how amazing this juicy stone fruit is. Eat it alone as a sweet treat or add it to salads, smoothies, curry, spring rolls or even guacamole. Mangoes are a great source of Vitamins A, C and E. Antioxidants never tasted so good.

But peeling them can be a pain, amirite?

My biggest problem is trying to manage a slippery object in one hand, and a sharp pairing knife in the other. Sometimes I just close my eyes and hope for the best (okay, maybe just the latter).

We discovered a simple solution to cutting mangoes. Actually, we found two ways that work best and one of them involves a cup. A CUP? Read on.

How to Peel A Mango

The first method involves scoring and inverting each mango half so they can easily be cut into squares. This is perfect if you need them to look pretty. But if you just want to get the job done, check out our steps below using a cup! We also put together a video so you know exactly how it works.

How to Peel A Mango

Method 1: How to Cut a Mango into Squares

  1. Cut along the mango seed, slicing off the flesh on both sides.
  2. Use your knife to score each half into squares. Repeat process for other half.
  3. Placing your thumbs against the flesh side and fingers against the skin, gently invert the mango so that the squares protrude outward.
  4. Slice off the little squares from the peel.
  5. Peel the skin from the centre piece containing the seed and cut off remaining flesh.

Method 2: How to Peel a Mango with a Cup

  1. Cut along the mango seed, slicing off the flesh on both sides.
  2. Firmly grasp one half of the mango and press the bottom against the rim of a cup, slowly moving downward to remove the peel.
  3. Peel the skin from the centre piece containing the seed and cut off remaining flesh.
