5 Things to Do Now That Will Make September Your Most Profitable Month Ever

Every industry has its slow season. The restaurant industry lulls in January, rosé sales peak in the summer, and no one buys an ice cream cone in the dead of winter.

The wellness industry is no different. It only takes a year or two in business to learn that July and August can be pretty slow. Most of your clients head off on vacation and, like it or not, the "I'll start fresh in September" mentality is very real.

But before you start feeling down, hear us out. The summertime lull can be a really good thing. It gives you a break from working in your business and allows you to work on your business. If you use the downtime wisely, you can be ready to hit the ground running in September and make it your most profitable month yet. 1. Set a goal.

If you want to make next month amazing you are going to need to get laser-focused on achieving something awesome. This means you should choose one single thing to focus on, and determine how you are going to measure the success of that thing.

Do you want to book more one-on-one clients? Do you want to launch a group program? Do you want to kick off a free challenge? If you’ve been trying to do it all, it’s time to clear everything off your plate except one item and focus on really nailing it.

Remember that goals should be S-M-A-R-T: specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-based. Choose a deadline, an outcome, and make sure that it’s a goal that you can realistically achieve.

Take Action: Write down one SMART goal for your business right now. What do you want to achieve? How are you going to measure it? When are you going to accomplish it by?

2. Create (or refresh) your lead magnet.

Now that you have decided on your goal, it’s time to create a lead magnet that will attract your ideal clients so that you can reach said goal. Keep it focused and consisted with the topic of whatever it is you are trying to sell.

3. Talk to everyone.

Talk about your business to your family, your friends, your followers, the cashier at your grocery store, the receptionist at your gym... everyone! If you really want to grow, you absolutely have to put yourself out there. You never know who might be interested, or who might know someone who is.

Now is a great time to connect with local businesses and start planning a free talk for September.

Take Action: Create a list of four people you would love to connect with this month to increase awareness of your business. Reach out to them to set up a time to chat. Always lead with the value you can provide to them and their community. Aim to connect with at least one new person per week, so by the end of the month you have created four new connections.

4. Start a weekly blog and newsletter.

If you haven't been blogging and writing a newsletter consistently, now is the perfect time to fix that. Creating content takes concentrated time and effort, so use your free time now to do some batch writing. That means writing blog posts in bulk so they're ready to go for the next couple months. Remember: your content doesn't need to be super long or complex, it just needs to provide value.

You should also be sending out regular newsletters to keep your community in the loop with what you have going on. It can be as simple as sending them a link to your latest blog post, and/or sharing some articles that will provide value to them.

When you regularly create content, you will stay visible and top of mind. When your community is ready to invest in their own health, or get asked for a referral, you'll be the first professional they think of.

Take Action: Create a content calendar. Map out the topics you want to cover on your blog over the next 4 to 6 weeks and when you will send your newsletter. Then, start writing!

5. Streamline your practice and improve your client experience.

And last but certainly not least, this is a great time to take a long, hard look at your workflow and client experience. Are you maximizing your time? Are your clients getting the best impression of you? Could you be using tools to improve your professionalism?
